The Museum opened on 1 April 2011, by integrating the Exhibition Floor of the Centennial Hall, which has been serving as the university museum, and the Frontier Research Center’s Exhibition Area of Innovative Technology. The newly founded Museum serves a pivotal role in widely disseminating important news to the public, including the university’s educational and research achievements, various ongoing advanced research projects and their applicative results, and highly recognized alumni accomplishments. By collecting, investigating, storing, researching and handing down archives, the Museum offers a wealth of historically significant materials.
The quintessential Centennial Hall has a permanent exhibition of large equipment, including a Stirling engine and textile machines that were used for students’ experiments in the past. Holographic art and world renowned ceramic works created by alumni, as well as Earth-related exhibits, such as an early Earth rock collection and deep Earth research results are also showcased here. The Centennial Hall was designed by the late Professor Kazuo Shinohara, the winner of the Golden Lion in memoriam of the Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2010. It has an exhibit room dedicated exclusively to the building design and the architectural feats of Shinohara.
The Museum, located on the Suzukakedai Campus mostly introduces parts of new technologies. It exhibits the university’s technological research developments encompassing the various scientific fields from environment and biology to materials, information, and functional machines.
