The Oxyflier, a manned aircraft developed by
Tokyo Tech students and powered by 160 AA batteries, took to
the air on July 16, 2006. Its flight, the first ever by a battery-powered
manned aircraft, lasted 59 seconds. The plane flew 391.4 meters
and climbed as high as 6.11 meters above the ground.
