Shinji ANDO, Vice President for Safety and Compliance

Shinji Ando has been vice president for safety and compliance at Tokyo Tech since April 2016.

After completing his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees at Tokyo Tech's Department of Polymer Chemistry in 1984, 1986, and 1989 respectively, Ando joined the Interdisciplinary Research Laboratories at Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation as senior researcher.

In 1995, he returned to Tokyo Tech, assuming the position of associate professor in the Department of Polymer Chemistry at the Graduate School of Science and Engineering. From 1998 to 1999, Ando spent one year in the U.K. as senior visiting scholar at Durham University's Department of Chemistry. From 2002 to 2004, he also worked for the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency as affiliate associate professor.

In 2006, Ando was promoted to professor in the Department of Chemistry and Materials Science at Tokyo Tech's Graduate School of Science and Engineering. A decade later, he assumed the duties of professor at the newly established School of Materials and Chemical Technology, where he continues to serve alongside his duties as vice president.
