Code of Conduct for Researchers, Etc. at Tokyo Institute of Technology

Tokyo Institute of Technology has established the "Code of Conduct for Researchers, Etc. at Tokyo Institute of Technology" based on the "Code of Conduct for Scientists" written by the Science Council of Japan in October 2006.

Tokyo Institute of Technology Guidelines on Improper Conduct Relating to Research Activities

Tokyo Institute of Technology has established the "Tokyo Institute of Technology Guidelines on Improper Conduct Relating to Research Activities" based on the "Guidelines for Responses to Misconduct Relating to Research Activities" written by the Special Committee on Misconduct Relating to Research Activities of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and the "Code of Conduct for Scientists" written by the Science Council of Japan in October 2006.

Misconduct in Research Activities

Misconduct in research activities includes but is not limited to the following acts: forgery, fabrication, plagiarism, wrongful use of research funds (including inappropriate use).

Target Persons

Target persons are all individuals affiliated to the Institute and/or engaging in research activities bearing the Institute's name (irrespective of whether they are full-time, part-time, or students or their title is professor, visiting scholar, research assistant, industry-academia-government collaboration-associated researcher, etc. Moreover, whether or not they are the main recipient of funds is of no consequence whatsoever.).

Important Points

Names of persons submitting reports and/or receiving counsel shall be disclosed. In cases where it is decided, as a result of investigation, that a report was made with malicious intent, the Institute will take necessary measures, including publicizing the name of the person who submitted said report, disciplinary action, and criminal accusation.

Contact information for the Reporting and Consultation Service Desk for misconduct is as follows. This service desk also serves as the contact for both reports and consultations in the public interest pursuant to the Whistleblower Protection Act.
