The year 2017 marks the 6th Homecoming Day, an event that started as a way of expressing our gratitude to graduates and other valued members of the Tokyo Tech community. This annual gathering is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together and enjoy the excitement of Tokyo Tech. A wide range of events and activities provide a chance for graduates to renew old friendships, and a day of enjoyment for families and local residents.
Tokyo Tech embarked on an exciting journey as it launched a new education system in April 2016. Revamped curricula are now taught within new Schools that encompass both undergraduate and graduate studies. Furthermore, the Institute of Innovative Research (IIR) was founded in 2016. With a new management system to better serve Institute-wide research, Tokyo Tech is continuously striving to increase the global exposure of its research activities. Honorary Professor Yoshinori Ohsumi's winning of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in October exerted a further positive impact on education and research at the Institute.
Tokyo Tech is in pursuit of becoming one of the world's leading research universities by 2030. The Institute focuses on developing talented individuals who can make a positive impact on the world, and aims to benefit society through its education and research. To achieve these objectives, close relationships among graduates and strong ties with society are essential, and Tokyo Tech relies on the support of its alumni to make this happen. I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone for their continued support, encouragement, and cooperation in strengthening the bonds between the Institute and the community, and I look forward to meeting you all on Homecoming Day.
