Global Scientists and Engineers Course

Launched in 2013, the Global Scientists and Engineers Course (GSEC) is an educational platform running parallel to Tokyo Tech's bachelor's and master's degree programs.

Students will acquire the skills and expertise necessary to become globally competitive scientists and engineers.

Intended for (a) bachelor's degree students and (b) master's degree students who have not fulfilled the criteria to join the advanced level.
Students who enroll in GSEC begin at the basic level. After fulfilling the completion requirements for this level, they advance to intermediate. Global Awareness Program

Global perspectives

In this program, globally active Tokyo Tech graduates give lectures to help students think about their international career options. Also, students engage in project-based learning, which provides an opportunity to work with international students and learn about issues in other countries. Through communication with students from different countries, students will learn the importance of having a global perspective.

International Cooperation Practice Grounded in Science and Technology Program

Problem finding and solving

This program involves group work, presentations, and workshops in addition to collaborative work with international students and lectures by leading professionals such as journalists, engineers, and designers. Students learn to take full advantage of working with a diverse group of individuals to help identify the true nature of complex issues and to present their solutions.

English and Communication Program

English proficiency

This program is designed to help students acquire a high level of English essential to study, join discussions, and prepare academic papers at universities abroad. Any one of the minimum scores necessary to complete GSEC at basic and intermediate levels are given below.

Study Abroad or International Internship Program

International experience

This program offers a wide range of international experiences including studying and working at universities and institutions worldwide and international cooperation activities in developing countries.

Short-term programs
Through experience-based programs that make use of Tokyo Tech's international network, students get to study at world-renowned universities and overseas research institutions, organizations, and companies.

Leadership Training and International Liberal Arts

Acquire the knowledge and skills required of a global leader

When working in the research and business fields with people from diverse backgrounds, in addition to foreign language skills, it is necessary to clearly communicate the team's goals and direction to its members. Leaders are also expected to conduct and manage projects based on a detailed plan while developing the motivation of the whole team. Students at the advanced level receive training on these skills by participating in programs that are jointly conducted with overseas universities. Furthermore, by deepening their understanding of subjects such as ethics, history, culture, and literature, students develop the necessary intellect required of global scientists and engineers.

Knowledge and skills for an international career

Through studying these areas, students develop the broad perspective necessary for working in a global environment.

Students will also acquire the necessary skills for proposing new ideas that benefit society by working with experts from different fields. Through language lessons, students will also brush up their global communication skills.

At the advanced level, GSEC recommends students undergo a study abroad experience lasting eight weeks or more. (For detail, please visit Completion RequirementsPDF.)

Based on the skills acquired in this course, each student will plan and prepare a study abroad program and gain overseas experience in order to be ready to join international research activities. The practical experience of study abroad facilitates students' development of new, international perspectives not bound by convention. They acquire creative skills and values that will enable them to make new proposals to individuals and organizations.
