Disaster and Accident Insurance for Students (GAKKENSAI) (Gakusei Kyoiku Kenkyu Saigai Shougai Hoken)

There is no way students can know when an unexpected accident may occur during regular curricular activities, school events or extracurricular activities. In particular, given the quantity of experiments and practical training conducted at Tokyo Tech, chemical burns, injuries resulting from machinery and other kinds of accidents occur relatively frequently. Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES) administers Disaster and Accident Insurance for Students (GAKKENSAI) as a system for providing aid to students involved in such accidents. GAKKENSAI comprises a nationwide accident and disaster compensation system that was established as a measure to assist students who suffer various accidents during their study and research activities, and all Tokyo Tech students are required to join this insurance.

A guide to joining this insurance system is enclosed with other regular admission documents (also distributed by the Student Support Division). Please note, you will need to re-join this insurance system each time you advance to the next stage of higher education (e.g. from a research student to a master's student; from an undergraduate student to a master's student; and from a master's student to a doctoral student).

Disaster and Accident Insurance for Students (GAKKENSAI)

Personal Liability Insurance for Students - supplementary to the Disaster and Accident Insurance for students (GAKKENBAI) (Gakkensai Futai Baisho Sekinin Hoken)

Personal Liability Insurance for Students (GAKKENBAI) is another type of insurance that indemnifies student liability (compensation paid to injured third parties or for damaged property) arising from accidents occurring during official Tokyo Tech activities (excludes some activities), and all students are also required to join this as it is regarded necessary for life as a student. GAKKENBAI cannot be bought independently of the abovementioned GAKKENSAI insurance, so please buy them together.
