Abstract

• the production of hydrogen from each of electricity via electrolysis, the gasification of coal and the reforming of natural gas;
• the displacement of gasoline/diesel and natural gas by any of these forms of hydrogen;
• the generation of electricity by gas turbines and reciprocating engines fuelled by either natural gas or any of these forms of hydrogen; and
• the electrification of the transport fleet.

The School of Engineering at Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) is running a problem-solving practical idea contest to realize a sustainable society. Following the guidance seminar held on June 11th, this time we will provide an opportunity to deepen your knowledge of sustainability and learn entrepreneurship (no prior application is required). We will also introduce case studies from a graduate who is actually engaged in problem-solving innovation. It is also possible to apply for ExS Challenge participation after listening to this seminar (the entry form link is below). Any groups or individuals represented by a student, postdoc, or assistant professor at the School of Engineering, Tokyo Tech can participate. Associate professors and professors cannot be representatives, but they are welcome to join as members. Students at other schools at Tokyo Tech, students at other universities, or even workers in companies are welcome as a member of a group, but cannot be the representatives of a group.

Mr. Kawazu is well-known as a major creator and developer of the world famous game series "FINAL FANTASY" and "SaGa." He recently became the executive producer for the mobile game "Emperors SaGa."

Mr. Kawazu is a core member of SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. which provides high-quality entertainment and services around the world with development and retail bases in many countries. He speech will span his years as a Tokyo Tech undergraduate to his most recent innovations in the entertainment world.

The lecture will be followed by a Q&A time.

Because designed objects are everywhere in our life, improving the way people experience and feel objects is a crucial issue tackled by designers and scientists. In the 21st century, the aim of design is to serve people and society not only in term of functions, but also in term of emotional fulfillment and well-being.
In this context, designers have to deal with contemporary issues such as:

- how to design products that provide a satisfying experience to people
- how to design products that fit our body and brain capabilities
- how to design creative and innovative products
- how to design for users who are not aware of what they need
- how to design for usages and experiences which do not exist yet

Our international speaker lineup reflects the multidisciplinary profile of design, with experts in industrial design, kansei engineering, information science, semiotics, cognitive science and neuroscience. The speakers will give inspiring talks as well as live demonstrations of interactive systems. We wish you a fruitful and enjoyable symposium !

Australian Indigenous languages have been endangered to different extents since the arrival in Australia of English speaking colonists in the late eighteenth century. Of the two hundred and fifty Australian Indigenous languages spoken at that time, less than fifty languages continue to be spoken as first languages by children. This talk will examine the language situation typical of the most severely endangered languages, for example, in the areas close to Australian cities in the South East of Australia and discuss some of the ways the Indigenous communities are attempting to reverse this loss with input, in some cases, from linguists and government initiatives.
