Yasuharu Suematsu

Honorary professor and former president of Tokyo Tech. Pioneer in semiconductor lasers for high capacity long-distance optical fiber communication. Developed the dynamic single-mode laser, and recognized for significant contributions to high-capacity long-distance optical fiber communication. Recipient of the 2014 Japan Prize.

Kristian Elmholdt Stubkjaer

Head of the Electrical Engineering Department at the Technical University of Denmark. Spent 18 months at Suematsu Laboratory to pursue research on semiconductor lasers. Specializes in active components for optical systems and networks.

Björn Mikael Broberg

Program chair of the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research and advisor in the venture capital industry and for governmental research funding agencies. Extensive experience in business management. Expert in development and production of photonic components, in particular, monolithically integrated tunable semiconductor lasers. Spent a year at Suematsu Laboratory in 1984.

Yukio Kawano

Associate Professor of the Quantum Nanoelectronics Research Center, Tokyo Tech. Research focus on terahertz (THz) waves, which lie between microwaves and infrared. Currently working to establish basic components to detect THz waves. Specializes in nanoscale detection methods and applications.
