The Short-term Program for Studying in the Philippines was conducted from September 1 to September 10 as part of the Global Scientists and Engineers Course, with six participants from undergraduate courses. This program has been designed with the full assistance of our Tokyo Tech Philippines Office.

What is Tokyo Tech Philippines Office?

Tokyo Tech Philippines Office was established in September 2005 on the campus of De La Salle University, Manila-our second overseas office after Tokyo Tech Thai Office.
Tokyo Tech has a long history of academic exchange with several Philippine universities. The Office has contributed to various activities such as conducting inter-university student exchange, holding workshops presented by Tokyo Tech professors, and cooperation with the Association of Tokyo Tech Alumni and Research Scholars (ATTARS), one of our alumni organizations.

Preparation for overseas study

In addition to orientation, other sessions took place including a briefing given by a Philippine student studying at Tokyo Tech and safety training conducted by a Tokyo Tech professor. Moreover, respective participants collected information during each visit and gave presentations on August 27, just before their departure, with the purpose of making the visit all the more fruitful.

At De La Salle University and The University of the Philippines Diliman, local students majoring in science and technology hosted a campus tour for Japanese students with common interests. After the program, the students dined together and walked around the city, providing a good opportunity to deepen mutual understanding and friendship.
Through this program, the students experienced life overseas and gained awareness of risk management and health management issues. Some commented that their confidence to study abroad and future career prospects were developed during the short stay.
One student who participated in this program spoke passionately about new friendships, saying, "I want to visit there again to meet the local students who welcomed us so warmly, and travel to places I haven't yet been."
