Lecture by Hajime Yakushiji of Dentsu: "Look inside Japan through advertising and communication"

On January 28, a special lecture by Hajime Yakushiji of Dentsu (the largest advertising company in Japan) was held in lecture room W935 of West Bldg. 9 on the Ookayama campus. The title of the lecture was "Look inside Japan through Advertising and Communication." Yakushiji graduated from Tokyo Tech (Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering) in 2005 and now works for Dentsu as a communication designer.

In the lecture, Yakushiji explained the shift from advertising to communication and introduced three key concepts for effective communication design: "from say to do," "for society" and "collaboration." He also gave specific examples of how communication design is used by Japanese companies, municipal governments and NPOs.

Yakushiji's lecture was a part of the undergraduate "Topics on Japan" course, supported by the Tokyo Tech Creativity Fostering Course Fund. Thirty two international students and four Japanese students attended the lecture, which was followed by a lively question and answer session.
