Spring Entrance Ceremonies 2015

The Spring Entrance Ceremony for the 2015 academic year was held on April 2 at the Ookayama Campus. A total of 2,945 students enrolled in the spring term, of which 1,109 are in the undergraduate program and 1,836 in the graduate program. Of the latter, 1,530 are in the master's program, 30 in the professional master's program, and 276 in the doctoral program.

A ceremony for undergraduate students was held in the morning and another for graduate students in the afternoon. Both ceremonies started with the entrance of President Yoshinao Mishima in academic cap and gown, followed by guests, members of the Board, deans, and directors. The solemnities of the occasion were underscored by the Tokyo Tech Orchestra playing a march directed by the resident conductor Ryuichi Suenaga. After the opening address, those present joined the students' chorus group, Chor Kleines, in singing the Tokyo Tech Song.

President Mishima

In his speech to new undergraduate students, President Mishima urged everyone to develop their expertise while gaining various experiences, and to study abroad while representing the best science and technology university in Japan. For new graduate students, Mishima highlighted the importance of embracing challenge with enthusiasm and future vision, becoming an internationally-minded person, and making the world their stage after graduation.

President Hisao Taki of the Tokyo Tech Alumni Association, and Mr. Katsumi Ihara, President and Representative Director of Sony Financial Holdings, also delivered speeches.

The introductions of the guests, members of the Board, deans, and directors followed. Student representatives also made powerful statements about their new goals at Tokyo Tech.

The entrance ceremony for undergraduate students was followed by a commemorative concert. Each year, a professional pianist performs to wish new students good luck. Ms. Nanako Kurita was the pianist in 2015. Kurita studied music at the Music High School affiliated with the Faculty of Music at the Tokyo University of the Arts, and then received her bachelor's and master's degrees from the Tokyo University of the Arts. She was awarded the Clavier Prize when defending her master's thesis at the Tokyo University of the Arts.

With cherry blossoms in full bloom, the Ookayama Campus also radiated with the smiles of new students and their families on this occasion.

The Tokyo Tech community offers all new students its warm congratulations.
