Provost David Farrar, University of British Columbia, visits Tokyo Tech

Provost and Vice President Academic David Farrar of the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada paid a courtesy call to President Yoshinao Mishima on April 1, 2015. During the courtesy call, which was attended by Executive Vice President for Education Toshio Maruyama and Professor Jeffrey Cross of Tokyo Tech's Graduate School of Science and Engineering, President Mishima shared a presentation on Tokyo Tech's education reform and described the Institute's participation in MEXT's Top Global University Project. Provost Farrar noted that innovative education is a focus at both institutions, and both are interested in outcomes-based education.

Farrar later attended a series of meetings with Tokyo Tech faculty on various topics including future exchanges between the two universities, online teaching and learning activities, and research exchanges. The Provost also visited the Environmental Energy Innovation (EEI) Building, where Professor Akira Yamada of the Department of Physical Electronics shared an overview of the building, and Professor Osamu Ishitani of the Department of Chemistry introduced his research on photocatalytic metal complexes for transforming solar energy to chemical energy.
