Tokyo Tech's Department of Organic and Polymeric Materials of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering (DOPM) and the Institute for Textile Technology at RWTH Aachen University (ITA) co-hosted "A symposium on the collaboration to bridge challenges in New Fiber Materials Development" on November 10.
ITA and DOPM signed a school-to-school cooperation agreement on the same day.
Five ITA researchers, three faculty members from DOPM, and two researchers from other Japanese organizations introduced their cutting-edge research in the following areas:
Prior to the symposium, the signing ceremony was held in the presence of Mrs. Svenja Schulze, Minister for Innovation, Science and Research of the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), her delegation, President and Representative Director of NRW Japan K.K. Georg K. Löer, officers from the Japan Chemical Fibers Association, and Tokyo Tech Executive Vice President for Education and International Affairs Toshio Maruyama.
ITA and DOPM have a good track record in exchanging researchers and graduate students, and conducting three-way joint research with industry. Boosting exchanges through the agreement is significant from the standpoint of enhancing education and developing talented researchers.
ITA mainly focuses on mechanical engineering while DOPM specializes in materials engineering. The complimentary nature of the relationship is expected to generate synergistic effects in the future.
