Tokyo Tech held the annual Study Abroad Fair on April 20 on the Ookayama Campus. The fair was intended to broaden students' understanding of the variety of international programs available while encouraging students who had previously studied overseas to share their experiences. Representatives from foreign governments, external organizations, and student associations supporting study abroad also joined the annual event to provide information and field students' questions. Approximately 400 students attended the event this year.

Dr. Hidetoshi Sekiguchi, Tokyo Tech's Vice President for International Affairs, welcomed the participants to the fair held at Tokyo Tech Front. After staff from the International Student Exchange Division explained the various options available to Tokyo Tech students, Associate Professor Tatsuro Satsuma of the Institute for Liberal Arts provided insight on learning foreign languages. Lastly, Associate Professor Hiraku Sakamoto of the Department of Mechanical Engineering recounted episodes from his years in the U.S. where he earned his doctorate degree.

Representatives of external organizations, faculty from Tokyo Tech's Foreign Language Advisory Center, study abroad program staff, and students who had previously taken part in overseas study programs held individual consultations with interested students.

The popularity of the short-term language programs booth suggested that many students consider an overseas language program as their first step to study abroad. Those thinking about going abroad for longer periods had valuable opportunities to speak directly with students who had already experienced study abroad programs.

Remaining in conversation at the booths after the fair had officially concluded, Tokyo Tech students demonstrated a high level of interest in overseas opportunities. With a wealth of study abroad programs from which to choose, the most challenging decision may not be whether to study abroad but, rather, where to go.

Tokyo Tech staff members based on the 4th floor of South Building 6 are available throughout the year to provide support and answer questions regard study abroad.
