Xiamen University, founded in 1921 in China's Fujian Province, is recognized for its excellent educational programs in the sciences and humanities. With the Chinese government and Fujian Province currently focusing on the establishment of world-class science and technology universities, the Xiamen delegation expressed interest in Tokyo Tech's strategies regarding the commercialization of its research findings.

Zhang noted that universities in China have recently begun offering courses in English as part of the initiative to promote internationalization of higher education in China. This trend has led to an increase in the number of international students studying at Chinese universities, but Zhang also pointed out that international students who take coursework in English miss the chance to learn about Chinese language and culture.

Mishima and Maruyama explained that while Tokyo Tech is also increasing the number of courses taught in English, the Institute offers various Japanese language and culture programs for international students. Furthermore, Tokyo Tech strongly encourages international students to study local language and culture so that they are able to participate in internships or work for Japanese companies after graduation.

After the meeting, the Xiamen delegation met with Professor Mitsuhiko Oi, general manager of the International Collaboration Division in Tokyo Tech's Office of Industry Liaison, to learn more about Tokyo Tech's university-industry collaborations.
