Rocket Club CREATE wins MHI award at Noshiro Space Festival

Tokyo Tech's Rocket Club CREATE was honored with the MHI Award in the ocean splashdown category for hybrid rockets at the 12th Noshiro Space Festival held from August 18 to 25. Awarded by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., the MHI award is the top prize given to teams at the festival for exceptional operation and successful launch of their rocket.

I am honored to receive such a prestigious award. There are still matters we must review in regards to the progress of the project, but we also received several suggestions for improvements. We will take those into account and continue to work hard.

Noshiro Space Festival

The Noshiro Space Festival, held every August in Noshiro, Akita Prefecture, is one of the largest amateur competitions of its kind. During the festival, college students and working adults compete by launching hybrid rockets and deploying CanSats. The 2016 festival was impeded by bad weather, but was concluded successfully thanks to collaboration between the many participating students and the people of Noshiro City.

Tokyo Tech Rocket Club CREATE

CREATE, established in 2014, is a relatively young club of nearly 20 members who design and launch hybrid rockets and CanSats. The club members develop their own missions, and then launch rockets three times a year in order to accomplish these missions.
