The 2017 Tokyo Tech Spring Entrance Ceremonies were held on April 4 at the Ookayama Campus. A ceremony for 1,136 bachelor's program students was held in the morning. Another ceremony for 1,613 master's and professional master's program students and 237 doctoral students took place in the afternoon. This spring, a total of 2,986 students enrolled at Tokyo Tech.
Both ceremonies began with the traditional entrance of President Yoshinao Mishima, members of the Board, deans of Tokyo Tech's six Schools, directors, and special guests while the Tokyo Tech Orchestra played a march directed by resident conductor Ryuichi Suenaga. All those present then joined Chor Kleines, the students' chorus group, in singing the Tokyo Tech Song.

In his speech to new bachelor's students, President Mishima encouraged everyone to take charge of their own studies and create a personalized study experience by utilizing the multifaceted curricula offered by Tokyo Tech. In the afternoon, the president invited master's and doctoral students to "experience the genuine thrill of discovering new knowledge" while highlighting the significance of both fundamental and applied research.
Mr. Yoshio Ishida, corporate auditor at Japan East Railway Company and president of the Tokyo Tech Alumni Association, and Mr. Seita Kanai, representative director and chairman of the board at Mazda Motor Corporation, also provided words of encouragement at both ceremonies.
After the introductions of the members of the Board, deans, directors, and special guests, student representatives made powerful statements about their new goals at Tokyo Tech.

A commemorative concert followed the ceremony for bachelor's program students. Each year, a professional pianist performs to wish new students good luck at the beginning of their Tokyo Tech journey. This year's pianist was Mr. Atsushi Imada, a 2016 finalist at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium.

The gentle spring weather and seasonal cherry blossoms once again complemented the jubilant atmosphere at Ookayama Campus as new students and their families celebrated this special occasion.
