At the request of the Thai government, TAIST-Tokyo Tech was established in 2007 to form research and development centers and promote technical innovation across Asia. The symposium was organized in response to the recent economic growth of Thailand and the fact that more than 2,000 Japanese companies have set up factories or offices there.

Executive Vice President Toshio Maruyama and six other members from Tokyo Tech spoke on research activities in various scientific areas and research collaborations with industry. Researchers from NSTDA and TAIST partner universities also gave presentations on their research activities with Tokyo Tech faculty. Dr. Narong Sirilertworakul, president of NSTDA, gave the closing remarks.
