The course introduces various fields in electrical engineering via video lectures featuring faculty members in four weekly segments. The course, aimed mainly at high school students, provides general knowledge on electrical and electronic engineering. Tokyo Tech graduates, who now work for Japanese companies, are also interviewed on topics such as:

  • Solar cells
  • Mobile phones
  • High-speed railway technology
  • Advanced technology transfer from the laboratory to the factory

For this MOOC, an original anime character was developed and named Sakura Ookayama. Sakura supports learners by asking graduate teaching assistants basic questions, which are then answered in the video lectures that follow.

The video lectures are delivered in Japanese, but all subtitles, assignments, and slide materials are provided in both Japanese and English, allowing students to learn the fundamentals of electrical and electronic engineering in both languages. International students studying Japanese for university admission purposes can utilize this course to improve their technical Japanese language skills.
