Yohei Cho 3rd year, Inorganic Materials

Meister was back at the Birdman Rally on July 30. It was a day of revival and revenge, as we did not participate last year. This year's team was special in that:

1.
Our pilot was the strongest and heaviest in our history,
2.
We flew a super-high performance aircraft, and
3.
The team was made of men only.

Pilot

The year's pilot, 3rd-year Mechano-Aerospace Engineering student Shunsuke Igarashi, was our heaviest and strongest pilot to date. Already at the pilot selection tests, Igarashi's output exceeded the design power of the machine, after which he continued to improve his condition. He also demonstrated excellent steering skills by completing a very stable flight.

Meister aims to improve its aircraft every year, and this year precision was again a top priority. However, we also put plenty of effort into designing fairings with outstanding aerodynamic characteristics using TSUBAME, Tokyo Tech's supercomputer. After combining new data with analyses from last year, we decided on asymmetric fairings on the left and right sides of the aircraft.

Team

This year's unique team was a stoical bunch of lads only. With no lack of physical strength, we spent the year spurring each other to push even harder.
