Jumpei Tsujiuchi, professor emeritus of Tokyo Tech, has received the Emmett N. Leith Medal, one of the most honorable awards presented by the Optical Society of America (OSA).
The Emmett N. Leith Medal, established in 2006, honors Emmett N. Leith, a world-renowned scientist in holography and optical information processing. Leith was a pioneer of coherent optics in radar systems and is credited with developing modern holography in the early 1960s.
This award recognizes seminal contributions to the field of optical information processing. Tsujiuchi was awarded for early pioneering work in optical information processing, holography, and optical metrology, including the first demonstration of coherent optical processing for image restoration.
Tsujiuchi attended an awards ceremony held in Washington, D.C. on September 18, 2017 to receive his medal and deliver his commemorative speech.
The Emmett N. Leith Medal is awarded for distinguished and pioneering achievements in optical information processing, holography, and optical metrology. As a scholar dedicated to these fields and the representative of our laboratory at Tokyo Tech, I am glad our achievements have been recognized. We will enjoy this award together with the whole lab team.
