Tokyo Tech hosts AEDS2018 on future of engineering education

The 2018 Asian Engineering Deans' Summit (AEDS) was held on Tokyo Tech's Ookayama Campus from May 21 to 23. Meeting for the eighth time since 2010, leaders from undergraduate and graduate-level engineering schools at leading universities in Asia and Oceania gathered to exchange views on the future of engineering education.

This year's event, entitled "Diversification of Engineering Education Programs — Today and Future," was co-hosted by Tokyo Tech three engineering schools — the School of Engineering, School of Materials and Chemical Technology, and School of Environment and Society — and the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Engineering. Presenters from Korea, China, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, and the USA joined domestic speakers involved in Japan's Eight-University Engineering Association for the two-day program. A total of 74 experts from 32 universities participated.

Sessions 1 and 2 on the first day focused respectively on Double/Dual Degree Programs for Student Mobility and International Internship Programs with Industrial Collaborative Research. Discussions on these topics continued at the evening gathering, held within the grounds of a traditional Japanese garden in central Tokyo.

On the second day, participants moved on to talks about Recruitment of International Students and Female Students, Entrepreneurship Programs for Innovative Human Resources, and Good Practices for Diversification of Engineering Education Programs.

AEDS2019 will be hosted by National Taiwan University.
