Hosted jointly by Tokyo Tech's School of Environment and Society and the International Development Engineering Alumni Association (IDEAL), the Tokyo Tech Philippines Office, the Association of Tokyo Tech Alumni and Research Scholars (ATTARS), and De La Salle University, the event brought together approximately 150 students, researchers, and other attendees. Three faculty members from the School of Environment and Society — Associate Professor Jiro Takemura, Assistant Professor Winarto Kurniawan, and Lecturer Eden Gan Mariquit — and Specially Appointed Professor Nobuaki Otsuki from the Office of Education and International Cooperation represented Tokyo Tech at the event.

In his keynote lecture, Otsuki provided "A review of electro-chemical repair/reuse methods" while Takemura discussed "Sustainable solid waste management in Japan and Southeast Asian countries." After four other keynote speakers, a further twelve lectures and eight student presentations on various topics made up the afternoon parallel sessions. Dr. Jason Maximino C. Ongpeng, president of ATTARS, and Mr. Yasutsugu Ogura, executive director of the Tokyo Tech Alumni Association, provided closing addresses for the lively event.

For the sixth consecutive year, WOW2018 provided another outstanding opportunity for waste disposal-related research and technology exchange between researchers and students in Japan and the Philippines.
