The Fall Entrance Ceremony for new Tokyo Tech students was held on September 30, 2020. The ceremony this fall jointly celebrated students who joined Tokyo Tech in April and September due to the effects of COVID-19. This spring, total enrollment was 3,075 students from 32 countries and regions, with 1,181 entering the bachelor's degree program, 1,598 joining the master's degree program, 33 entering the professional master's degree program, and 263 starting the doctoral degree program. This fall, total enrollment was 502 students from 44 countries and regions, with 2 students entering the bachelor's degree program, 316 students joining the master's degree program, 9 entering the professional master's degree program, and 175 students starting the doctoral degree program.
At the ceremony, preventive measures limited in-person participants to a small group of representative students, President Kazuya Masu and other members of the Board, and the president of the Tokyo Tech Alumni Association. Other students, family members, faculty, and friends were asked to experience the celebration virtually via a livestream.
During his congratulatory address, Masu welcomed this fall’s new students, 75 percent of whom joined Tokyo Tech from abroad, and encouraged them to engage in their interests from the start. Masu also commended the spring 2020 cohort for their proactivity in the past six months. Due to the closure of campuses, these students began their Tokyo Tech journey in an online environment.
Mr. Kiyoto Ido, president of the Tokyo Tech Alumni Association (Class of 1972, Department of Mathematics), also gave a short speech. While offering his congratulations and support, Ido encouraged the newest students of Tokyo Tech to adopt a broad perspective during their studies in order to ensure increased opportunities in the future.

After this, School of Computing undergraduate student Yuki Wata, who represented the April 2020 cohort, gave a short speech. Wata declared that, in addition to working hard to gain a deep understanding of science and technology, he and the other new students would cultivate a rich sense of humanity through the liberal arts in order to make an impact in Japan and the world. This was followed by brief words from School of Environment and Society doctoral student Amin M. Nazarahari on behalf of the students who joined the Institute in September. Nazarahari thanked the president for the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of many world-renowned engineers and scientists, and vowed to "become fearless defenders of our planet, for our generation, and many generations to come."
