I am pleased to announce that I received the 2021 Society Award from The Japan Society of Vacuum and Surface Science. I have been a member of this society for nearly 30 years, since its predecessor, The Surface Science Society of Japan, and during that time I have received technical awards, the title of Fellow, and have always been highly regarded. I believe that I have been able to make a small contribution as a member of the board of directors and as the president of the Kanto Branch in order to respond to this, which led to my receiving this award. The reason for receiving the award, "Research on Polymer Nanomechanics Using Atomic Force Microscopy," is the research that I have consistently and vigorously pursued from the time I was a student to the present, and I feel that it is the result of the guidance of my former advisor, Professor Toshio Nishi, who is also an honorary professor of this university, as well as the efforts of the staff, graduates, and students. I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to all of you. Nanomechanics using atomic force microscopy is a research field that is currently attracting a lot of attention around the world. As a faculty member of our university, I will continue to work hard to make our university known throughout the world in this field.
