Basic Policy for AY 2022 Fall Semester Classes

To: All Students and Their Parents/Guardians
From: Jun-ichi Imura, Executive Vice President for Education

In principle, classes in AY 2022 fall semester will be conducted in a face-to-face format for undergraduate and graduate programs, with ongoing COVID-19 prevention measures.

However, we continue to pay due consideration to students unable to physically access campuses – including international students unable to come to Japan and students with higher risk of becoming severely ill with COVID-19 due to underlying health conditions – and will introduce alternative means such as a combination of face-to-face and online formats (“HyFlex” mode). In addition, certain courses may be provided online if permitted by the academic unit in charge, on the basis that the online instruction is considered as effective as or more effective than a face-to-face format.

While we sincerely hope that the pandemic will soon end, with the help of progress in vaccination or development and distribution of new COVID-19 drugs, we still need to be on high alert for the time being. We ask everyone to continue basic precautions – such as washing and sanitizing hands, wearing a face mask, and ensuring sufficient ventilation of lecture rooms – before, during, and after classes, as appropriate.

We hope that all our students fully enjoy their university life physically on campus; at face-to-face classes, various interactions, and more. Please note that the above policy may change depending on future developments regarding COVID-19. Details will be announced on the Tokyo Tech website later.
