2.   General Rules and Regulations (Course Requirements)

 

2.1  Requirements for the Master's Degree Program

 

A student who studies for his/her Master's Degree must take 30 credits or more in the 2-year

course study. He/She is required to complete and submit a thesis for the degree and also to take

the final examination given after the submission of his/her thesis.

 

A student who has achieved outstanding research during the course may be able to shorten the

period of study to the minimum of one year.

 

A student who cannot complete his/her study or thesis in two years may be allowed to extend

the period of study for one year. In the case, however, he/she must submit a complete request

form for the extension of study with approvals of both his/her Advisory professor and the head

of the department (Format 5).

 

A student who is willing to go on to the doctor's program must submit the Application Form

for the Doctoral Course to the Student Affairs Section of the department of his/her choice

within the scheduled time and take the entrance examination.

 

2.2  Requirements for the Doctor's Degree Program

 

A student who studies for his/her Doctor's Degree must study for additional three years after the

completion of his/her Master's course study. He/She is required to complete and submit a

thesis for the degree and also to take the final examination and evaluation of his/her thesis.

 

A student who has achieved outstanding research during the course may be able to shorten the

period of study. The minimum period of study can be three years in total that includes both the

master's and doctor's course in continuation of the master's and doctor's course.

 

A student who cannot complete his/her study or thesis in three years may be allowed to extend

the period of study for 2 years. In that case, however, he/she must submit a complete request

form for the extension of study with approvals of both his/her Advisory professor and the head

of the department (Format 5).

 

2.3  Degrees Conferred

 

A students who has completed the master's or doctor's course program is conferred a degree:

Master/Doctor of Science, Master/Doctor of Engineering, or Master/Doctor of Philosophy, in

accordance with the field of research he/she has studied and the department in which he/she has

enrolled.


2.4  Long Absence, Return, and Withdrawal

 

The leave of absence from school due to illness or other inevitable problems can be permitted

from two months not exceeding two years by the request of the student who wants to do so. It

is necessary for the student to submit the prescribed form (Form 9) to the Student Affairs

Section after getting the approval of both advisory professor and head of the department. The

period of the leave of absence is not counted as his/her study period in graduate school. When a

long absent student returns to the Institute, he/she must submit a complete notice form

approved by both the Advisory professor and the head of the department to the Student Affairs

Section (Format 10).

 

When a student withdraws from the Institute by illness or other inevitable problems, he/she

must submit a complete request form approved by both the Advisory professor and the head

of the department to the Student Affairs Section (Format 12).
