International Graduate Program (IGP-B)

Tokyo Institute of Technology-RIKEN International School

1. Program Overview

This program aims to offer overseas students an opportunity to enroll directly in the Doctoral program at Tokyo Institute of Technology in close coordination and cooperation with RIKEN.

2. Requirements for the Doctoral Program

Enrolled students who acquire the designated number of credits in their department after at least three years of supervised study will be awarded a Doctoral degree upon approval of their thesis and a successful final examination. Students with outstanding academic and research records throughout the program may be able to shorten the period of study.

Required courses for the Doctoral Program are Seminars (V~X) which are guided by the Academic Advisor, and compulsory subjects in the student’s department. Students who receive approval to shorten their period of study can skip subjects in the shortened period.

Candidates must complete and submit a thesis, and pass a final examination in which the thesis is evaluated by co-supervisors from both Tokyo Institute of Technology and RIKEN. Those completing the Doctoral Program are conferred with the degree: Doctor of Science, Doctor of Engineering, or Doctor of Philosophy, in accordance with the field of research studied.

Note that the above requirements are minimal and some additional departmental specific requirements may be applied. All students are strongly advised to consult with their co-supervisors about the study plan in Tokyo Institute of Technology and RIKEN.
