International Graduate Program (IGP-B)

Tokyo Institute of Technology-RIKEN International School

1. Program Overview

This program aims to offer international students an opportunity to enroll directly in the doctoral program at Tokyo Institute of Technology in close coordination and cooperation with RIKEN.

2. Requirements for the Doctoral Program

Enrolled students who acquire the designated number of credits in their department after at least three years of supervised study will be awarded a doctoral degree upon approval of their thesis and a successful final examination. Students with outstanding academic and research records throughout the program may be able to shorten the period of study.

Required courses for the Doctoral Program are Seminars (V-X) which are guided by the student’s academic advisor, and compulsory courses in the student’s department. Students who receive approval to shorten their period of study may be exempt from certain seminar and compulsory course requirements.

Candidates must complete and submit a thesis, and pass a final examination in which the thesis is evaluated by co-academic advisors from both Tokyo Institute of Technology and RIKEN. Those completing the doctoral program are awarded one of the following degrees: Doctor of Science, Doctor of Engineering, or Doctor of Philosophy, depending upon their field of research.

Note that the above requirements represent minimum requirements and there may be additional departmental requirements. All students are strongly advised to consult with their co-academic advisors regarding their study plans.
