ToTAL/OPEN Programs "Future Foresight" Workshop: Future of "well-being way of life" 2022

Published: December 9, 2022

We are happy to announce "Call for Entries" to the subject workshop.

Outline of the workshop

  • "Future Insight" is called "Foresight" in English and has spread in Europe and the United States as a way of thinking about future prediction and uncertainty management in the VUCA era. In Japan, "Foresight" is being used by private companies, government and local governments as a methodology for innovation together with "Design Thinking".
  • "Future Insight" is important for the mindset which critically thinks about familiar views and relationships of existing things and gives a challenge of creative bias breaking and reframing (redefining issues).
  • By using horizon scanning methods that capture the signs of uncertain change and forced thinking (brainstorming), we will proactively design futures 10-15 years from now that nobody has yet conceived. In this course, you will experientially learn how to use future insight as a thinking tool for this purpose.

About the theme of this workshop; Future of "well-being way of life"

  • "Well-being" is a concept that refers to "some state of goodness for yourself", particularly physical and mental health. Rather than relying on conventional GDP-centered indicators of "happiness," each of us is expected to consider and explore the meaning and value of our own wellbeing. In addition, wellbeing is not limited to individual happiness, but is also considered to be a "state of goodness" for society, and by extension, the entire planet, and is increasingly attracting attention in the business field, such as the SDGs.
  • How will our way of life change if we adopt the concept of well-being? The past way of jobs, relationships with our partners, and the way of spending time and money would change, but it may be also important to think about how we live from the perspective of how we die, as the term "end-of-life planning" has become more widespread in recent years.
  • Let's think about the future of those kinds of well-being way of life by using future insights. By discussing your life events or experiences related to wellbeing as a starting point, and by looking at the unexpected changes included in those, we would like to gain insight into the possibilities for new ways of well-being life that have never been discussed before.
