The Tokyo Tech Ballroom Dance Club won the overall group category of the 48th Amano Cup Student Dance Championships held on November 13 at Dokkyo University in Soka City, Saitama Prefecture. The club edged out 32 other teams to take the victory in the Dokkyo Dance Sport Club-sponsored event.
Of the 22 Tokyo Tech Ballroom Dance Club couples that participated, two pairs shone the brightest with victories in their individual categories. Daiju Sato and Noi Kimura won the standard quickstep for first-year students. Sato also won the Latin American rumba with Minami Sakae. Three other couples also gave performances that earned them top-ten finishes.
I must admit I was surprised when we were announced the group winners of this competition. We were able to hold back a lot of strong teams from around the Kanto-Koshinetsu region. Of course a lot of credit is due to the strong performers, but I would also like to thank those who came to support us. They gave us that extra push. There are still competitions left this academic year, so we won't take this victory for granted, and will continue to practice hard.
The Tokyo Tech Ballroom Dance Club is an official student club of the Institute, currently consisting of 25 Tokyo Tech students,12 Shirayuri University students, and 9 Sugino Fashion College students.
