The Tokyo Tech Ballroom Dance Club placed third in the group category of the 104th National and Public University DanceSport Championships held at Hitotsubashi University's Kodaira International Campus on March 11.

A total of 15 universities and colleges joined the calendar year's competition. Of the 22 Tokyo Tech Ballroom Dance Club couples participating in the championships, 12 received prizes while 9 advanced to the finals.

Comments from club captain Ryota Adachi
3rd year, Industrial and Systems Engineering

I am very pleased as most of the couples performed very well in this competition. I think these results are a reflection of the strong support we have been receiving from alumni. This was the first competition of 2018, and it was important to start the year strong as a group. I hope our good form continues in future competitions.

DanceSport and Tokyo Tech Ballroom Dance Club

DanceSport is competitive ballroom dancing where couples are evaluated by a panel of judges. The collegiate championships have three categories — International Style Standard and Latin, and formation dance. International Standard includes waltz, tango, foxtrot, and quickstep, while International Latin consists of samba, cha-cha, rumba, and paso doble. Formation dance* is a choreographed team dance consisting of a medley of between two and four International Style dances, and involving four to eight couples.

The Tokyo Tech Ballroom Dance Club is an official student club of the Institute, currently consisting of 17 Tokyo Tech students, 11 Shirayuri University students, and 5 Sugino Fashion College students.
