Tokyo Tech and Osaka University hosted the 24th Supercomputing Contest (SuperCon) for high school and technical college students from August 20 to 24. This year, twenty-two teams who advanced through the preliminary rounds created programs for TSUBAME3.0, Tokyo Tech's supercomputer.
Twelve teams of two to three students from eastern Japan took on the challenge at the Tokyo Tech Global Scientific Information and Computing Center (GSIC), while ten western Japan teams put their minds to work at Osaka University's Cybermedia Center (CMC). This year's problems involved simulating a quantum computer.
After greetings and congratulatory words from GSIC Director Isao Yamada, Tokyo Tech Executive Vice President Isao Satoh, CMC Director Shinji Shimojo, and Masami Hagiya from the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ), the top-performing teams were recognized. Team Anantash from Nada Senior High School took first prize. The top three teams received medals and certificates. Team SHIROXTL from Miyasaki Nishi High School won the Institute Prize from the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers and IPSJ in recognition of their outstanding algorithm and coding.
