Tokyo Tech ANNEX Bangkok, the Institute's newest overseas hub, launched its first major event — Tokyo Tech Research Showcase in Thailand — at the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) on January 29, 2019.

Intended to accelerate Tokyo Tech's collaboration with universities, research institutions, and companies in Thailand, the Research Showcase introduced frontline Tokyo Tech researchers in information technology (IT), artificial intelligence (AI) and related fields.
IT and AI are key technologies under the Thai government's Thailand 4.0 economic policy. According to Tokyo Tech URA Tatsuya Mizukoshi, the Institute's research strengths in these areas offer a range of possibilities for partners interested in pursuing research collaboration related to IT and AI applications in healthcare, robotics, smart electronics, and other areas.
The Research Showcase featured the following Tokyo Tech faculty members and topics:

Welcoming 230 attendees from various organizations in Thai academia, industry, and government to the event, Tokyo Tech Executive Vice President Tetsuya Mizumoto commented, “This Showcase was organized to highlight the strong research capabilities of Tokyo Tech. We hope to develop new opportunities and deepen our collaborative research with you in Thailand.”

During a coffee break, event attendees had the opportunity to engage the researchers directly and ask follow-up questions on the presentations.
A poster session featured the research of students enrolled in TAIST-Tokyo Tech, a master's degree program operated by Tokyo Tech in collaboration with NSTDA and leading Thai universities.
Tokyo Tech ANNEX Bangkok plans to hold the Research Showcase in Thailand on an annual basis.
