The 2019 Tokyo Tech Festival, scheduled for October 12 and 13, was cancelled one day before the event with the arrival of Typhoon Hagibis on the Japanese mainland. Thanks to a unique category at the 2019 University Festival Grand Prix, however, Tokyo Tech's festival organizers were given the opportunity to "revive" the flagship event through the presentation of their plans to a panel of judges.
The University Festival Grand Prix ranks university festivals in the Tokyo metropolitan area based on their offerings to prospective students, alumni, and the public. Held under the auspices of Let's Enjoy Tokyo, an events website jointly managed by Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd. and Gurunavi, Inc., the festival enjoyed a record 141 participating universities in 2019. Three of these — including Tokyo Tech — had their plans annulled by the behemoth storm, and therefore only presented visions of their respective events to the University Festival Grand Prix audience.
Tokyo Tech Festival committee president Satoru Akutagawa, a 3rd-year Physics student, spoke to the judges about the Institute's open labs, student performances, and other main attractions that were originally planned for Tokyo Tech Festival 2019.

It is a shame that the Tokyo Tech Festival was cancelled due to extreme weather conditions. Several months have passed since the October typhoon, and many of us are getting busier as we are soon starting our fourth year of studies.
I am glad we were given the chance to present our festival plans at the University Festival Grand Prix. As I was thinking about the content of the presentation, I was once again reminded of the warm support we receive from the Institute, the local community, corporate supporters, and other Tokyo Tech friends.
Please come and enjoy the Tokyo Tech Festival in 2020.
Tokyo Tech Festival 2020 is being planned for October 10 and 11, 2020. The Institute invites all interested parties to come and experience pioneering science and technology research under the guidance of Tokyo Tech's numerous labs and student clubs.
