Tokyo Tech WISE programs & Tokyo Tech Academy for Leadership

Tokyo Tech WISE programs

The MEXT-supported WISE Programs were launched in academic year 2018. The programs aim to leverage the unique strengths and capabilities of each participating university to cultivate outstanding doctoral graduates with strong academic and research prowess while carrying out systematic collaborations with other domestic and overseas universities, research institutions, and corporations.

Three academies at Tokyo Tech currently implement WISE Programs. The Tokyo Tech Academy for Convergence of Materials and Informatics (TAC-MI) began training multitalented individuals capable of promoting creative, interdisciplinary research in materials science and informatics in January 2019. The Tokyo Tech Academy for Super Smart Society (WISE-SSS) kicked off efforts to nurture knowledge professionals who can integrate physical space technologies with cyber space technologies as well as advanced sciences and technologies such as quantum science and artificial intelligence, in December 2019. The Tokyo Tech Academy of Energy and Informatics (ISE), which began operating in December 2020, aims to cultivate multi-scope・energy WISE professionals who will help realize a sustainable, human-centric energy society with the help of big data science.

All three Tokyo Tech academies for the WISE Programs aim to foster outstanding professionals with doctoral degrees through an integrated, Institute-wide curriculum.

Tokyo Tech Academy for Leadership

The Tokyo Tech Academy for Leadership (ToTAL) was established in April 2018 as an organization that offers leadership excellence education. It implements a program that provides Tokyo Tech master's and doctoral students with the skills to transcend their respective fields of specialization to create new values in cooperation with others in rapidly changing times, and to take on roles as leading professionals in resolving social issues. Consisting of ToTAL faculty members and faculty members from various other Schools who assist with the educational program, the organization offers an extracurricular program of up to five years in which graduate-level students can participate while also studying courses required for their graduate majors.
