About Tokyo Tech
Tadayuki Fujino has been executive vice president for finance and secretary-general at Tokyo Tech since April 2019.
After graduating from Waseda University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, Fujino joined the Personnel Division of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture. He held various positions in educational administration before becoming examiner at the Administrative Inspection Bureau of the Management and Coordination Agency in 1999.
Fujino was appointed inspector at the Higher Education Bureau and director for Administrative Reform at the newly formed Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in April 2001. That same year, he took over as superintendent at the Board of Education for Narita City, Chiba Prefecture. In 2004, he moved to MEXT's Agency for Cultural Affairs, where he served as director of the Office for Regional Cultural Promotion at the Arts and Culture Division. Fujino also served as director of the agency's Religious Affairs Division in 2005.
From 2006 to 2007, Fujino was counsellor to the Cabinet Secretariat in the Office of the Assistant Chief Cabinet Secretary, Office for the Promotion of Special Zones for Structural Reform, and the Office for the Promotion of Regional Revival.
Fujino became chief inspector at the Elementary and Secondary Education Bureau of MEXT in 2007. In April 2009, he was appointed director of the School Management Support Division at the Elementary and Secondary Education Bureau. Three months later, he took over as director of the Lifelong Learning Promotion Division in the Lifelong Learning Policy Bureau. Fujino was director of the Lifelong Learning Policy Bureau from 2012 to 2015. He served concurrently as deputy director-general of this bureau from 2013 to 2015.
In April 2015, Fujino was appointed vice president of the National Museum of Nature and Science. He also became director of the Institute for Nature Study at this time. After vacating this role, he continued to serve the museum as vice president and deputy director-general until 2017.
In July 2017, Fujino returned to MEXT as deputy director-general for Cybersecurity, IT Management and Policy Evaluation. He became assistant minister for Cybersecurity, IT Management and Evidence-based Policymaking in April 2018. Before commencing his duties at Tokyo Tech, Fujino served as deputy director-general for Cultural Affairs at MEXT from January to March 2019.
