This page provides an overview of the International Graduate Program. For more information, please see the following page.
Tokyo Tech launched its International Graduate Programs (IGP) in October 2007 to provide opportunities for qualified international students, who may have little or no knowledge of the Japanese language, to pursue advanced degrees at the Institute.
IGP targets international students seeking a master's degree or a doctorate. Courses offered through IGP are taught entirely in English. Many of its curricular programs focus on global issues, but students are given opportunities to attend general liberal arts courses as well. Japanese language courses are also available for those who intend to pursue employment in Japan upon completing the programs.

This program aims to develop highly skilled engineers with a wide range of knowledge and ability to apply their expertise. Students will be trained to facilitate corporate expansion into developing countries and lead projects of international organizations by developing and innovating necessary technologies.
A research topic that has recently generated global interest in the fields of urban and building design is environmentally sustainable development. This program aims to develop world-class architects equipped with superior skills in engineering design who will be prepared to tackle the various challenges that face high-density, complex cities such as Tokyo.
This program aims to develop global leaders in the field of bioscience and biotechnology who are capable of solving the mounting global problems that confront us today. The program focuses on activities and on-site training that cultivate creativity and social skills. International students and local students study together to build networks of mutually beneficial relationships.
IPISE offers three interdisciplinary curricular programs: materials science, environment and energy, and information systems. It aims to develop scientists and engineers who can independently solve problems, and targets outstanding international students who have the potential to contribute to scientific and technological development.
Japan is a leader in multi-media processing, human interface technology, embedded software and robot informatics. In order to further develop these technologies, the program seeks outstanding international students who will support research and development both domestically and internationally.
This program aims to develop next-generation leaders with a clear, global vision for the high-tech future.
In this program, students will:
This program aims to develop highly-skilled engineers and researchers who will become global leaders in seismic mitigation, a subject that is becoming increasingly complex. Students study Japan's earthquake hazard mitigation technologies through collaborative learning, practical activities, and research with Japanese students. The program seeks applicants with fundamental knowledge of architecture, civil engineering and social science.
IGP (B) accepts applications from:
Tokyo Institute of Technology-RIKEN International School offers international students an opportunity to enroll in a doctoral program at Tokyo Tech. Students receive academic advice from both Tokyo Tech and RIKEN faculty members and conduct research at both institutions. The school offers three curricular programs:
Students in IGP (C) can earn a master's or doctoral degree without enrolling in any particular curricular program. Unlike IGP (A) and (B), which only accept international applicants, IGP (C) accepts domestic applicants as well.

Various scholarship opportunities are available for international students depending on the program and their nationality. Some scholarships are guaranteed prior to enrollment at Tokyo Tech and others can be applied for after enrollment. For more information on scholarships, please contact the program coordinator.
All regular international students, including those who are not enrolled in any particular program, receive information about privately-funded scholarships as part of the admission packet. Students can apply for these scholarships by submitting the application form enclosed in the packet. For details of the application procedure, please contact the Financial Aid Group of the Student Support Division in the Student Service Department.
Below is a list of dormitories available for international students. Newly arrived students are given priority for room assignments.
Dormitories are automatically assigned to International students who are admitted to Tokyo Tech. In the event that dormitories are not available, information about dormitories operated by other organizations and private rental properties for which students can directly apply will be provided.
