Systematically study more advanced knowledge and technology based on the latest research in the fields of structural mechanics, structural engineering, construction material technology, earthquake engineering, water and environment, geotechnical engineering, infrastructure and transportation planning, building on fundamental knowledge of civil engineering gained in the Undergraduate Program. Furthermore, the curriculum is structured to enable students to deepen their specialization and increase their creativity by performing research independently during Research Seminars and master's thesis research.
-
- Common Courses
- This group is comprised of English communication courses and project-based courses on disaster mitigation, in which international students and Japanese students, or students from an overseas university and Tokyo Tech cooperate.
-
- Structural Mechanics, Structural Engineering, Earthquake Engineering, Construction Material Technology
- Students learn theories and methods related for design and management of civil engineering structures to ensure safety of them considering prevention of natural disaster and damage.
-
- Water and Environment
- Covering rivers, coasts, and other water environments, this group provides courses on these natural systems and relevant management concepts and technologies, particularly on water-related disasters, water resources, water quality, aquatic ecosystems, and some others, at several different spatial scales. In courses, students deepen their understanding on such natural systems as well as related environmental problems, including uncertainty in the environment. Moreover, students obtain expertise and skills to independently apply those fundamental understandings for disaster management, water resources management, and conservation of water environments.
-
- Geotechnical Engineering
- Students learn about the characteristics of geo-materials and the advanced theories for solving initial/boundary value problems in geotechnical engineering. They also study mitigation of geotechnical disasters induced by earthquake, flooding and change in human activities and acquire the ability to comprehensively solve geotechnical engineering problems.
-
- Infrastructure and Transportation Planning
- What kind of infrastructure development is essential for the society? How should infrastructure be planned and operated? Students study cutting-edge theories for rationally pursuing and implementing solutions to such questions. Students specifically learn mathematical models for travel behavior, transportation network analysis, economic evaluation theory of infrastructure development/policy, theory for infrastructure management, etc.
-
- Research Seminars
- Students diligently help each other improve through seminars on research in laboratories and research groups.
