    We Accept Students from Diverse Fields

    Under the guidance of the teaching staff at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, students admitted from universities and colleges of technology all over Japan as well as those continuing their studies from Tokyo Institute of Technology's Undergraduate Program perform research. We also accept students who studied fields other than materials science for their bachelor's degree. In our laboratories, students with a variety of backgrounds use their individual expertise to tackle their master's thesis research.     We Provide a Systematized Curriculum That Covers the Many Branches of Materials Science

    The Graduate Major in Materials Science and Engineering curriculum has a systematic design that allows students to smoothly continue their studies from the Materials Science and Engineering Undergraduate Program. The lectures maintain continuity with the specialized courses that were provided in the Undergraduate Program. As students progress with their studies, they deepen their expertise that focuses on metals, organic materials, and inorganic materials.

    At the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, students can carry out their master's and doctoral thesis research in laboratories that have world-class research environments. Aside from fully-equipped laboratories, we have one of the best group of researchers and educators in the field of materials science in the world. Our faculty include leading experts in each of the specialized areas of materials science, and they make up part of the 60+ members of faculty supervising courses offered by our department.

    The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is actively involved in international student exchange and we have many overseas students studying here. Many of our laboratories have a highly international character. Similarly, under Tokyo Tech's exchange programs and through arrangements between our faculty members and overseas universities and institutes, our students can spend time studying abroad. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Tokyo Tech is linked to the world.

There are also those who have continued on to Doctoral Programs and are continuing their research at overseas universities and research institutes. Students who studied materials science can play an active role in a variety of fields. This is another great and appealing aspect of studying materials science.
