The Use of the “COVID-19 Contact-Confirming Application (COCOA)”

This is a request to all Tokyo Tech students to use the “COVID-19 Contact-Confirming Application (COCOA)*”, an app provided by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare as a measure to help university activities and operations run safely under the current situation with the coronavirus.
The following are the details regarding this request.
Note: This document will hereinafter refer to the novel coronavirus as “COVID-19”.

Basic policy for the use of the COCOA app
This request to use the COCOA app is not mandatory. All Tokyo Tech members are asked to assess their situation and decide whether or not to use this application after evaluating the advantages and possible problems of its use.

Procedures adopted by Tokyo Tech if showing symptoms of the virus:

  • If you suspect that you might have been infected with the novel coronavirus, or if you are not sure about your symptoms, follow the instructions described in the following documents:

  • If you receive an “exposure notification” from the COCOA app (i.e. you have been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19), the application will proceed to a brief questionnaire:
    • If you have symptoms of COVID-19 or are in close contact with someone with COVID-19, follow the instructions of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, consult your local “Consultation Center for People with Potential Exposure to COVID-19”, and contact the Tokyo Tech COVID-19 Task Force.

      In such cases, students will be granted authorized absence.
    • If you have no symptoms or do not have close contact with anyone with COVID-19, you may continue to come to campus while paying special attention to your health condition for 14 days. If doubts arise regarding your health during this period, please use the telephone consultation services offered by your prefectural public health centers, including the “Consultation Center for People with Potential Exposure to COVID-19”.
