Education reform briefing sessions held, details now available online

Tokyo Tech is formulating a new education system to be launched in April 2016. Undoubtedly, this is one of the biggest reforms in the Institute's 134-year history. Under President Yoshinao Mishima's leadership and in line with his intention of fostering in students a strong spirit of self-improvement and proactive learning, the Institute's faculty and staff members are working as one to implement these reforms.

Eight briefing sessions concerning the reforms were held for prospective students and current Tokyo Tech community members in April and May, 2015. These included separate sessions for high school students, prospective graduate students, and current students. Executive Vice President Toshio Maruyama and Vice President Tetsuya Mizumoto described the main points of the new system and answered questions on topics such as credit transfers, the effect of the new quarter system, and increased study abroad opportunities.

An English briefing session was conducted for current and prospective international students at the Ookayama Campus on June 24. Again, students showed great interest in the reforms, posing detailed questions on a variety of topics including MOOCs and the availability of courses in English. Students from the Suzukakedai Campus also participated via the teleconference system.

The tenth briefing regarding Tokyo Tech's education reforms will be held in Japanese for high school students during the Open Campus in Ookayama on August 8, 2015.
