On February 7, 2020 the Institute hosted the 57th Tokyo Tech Global Researcher Gathering at Suzukakedai Campus, bringing together 38 researchers, family members, and host researchers from 13 countries.
Tokyo Tech has hosted this biannual event since 1991 to promote academic and cultural exchange for its faculty members and international researchers. Since January 2010, the event has also included an orientation, providing attendees with useful information about Tokyo Tech.
At the orientation, President Kazuya Masu gave a summary about Tokyo Tech's history and mission. During the Q&A session that followed, Masu and his executive team ― Provost and Executive Vice President for Institute Strategy Isao Satoh, Executive Vice President for Education Tetsuya Mizumoto, Executive Vice President for Research Osamu Watanabe, and Executive Vice President for Finance and Secretary-General Tadayuki Fujino ― answered questions. There were comments and questions about the industry-academia partnership and research funding, to which the board members provided responses and explained the status quo, and future challenges at the Institute.
After the orientation, a reception was held. Mizumoto welcomed participants in his opening remarks while Watanabe offered a toast to the Tokyo Tech researchers, two of whom also gave short presentations about their research and experiences at the Institute. Overall, everyone enjoyed mingling in a relaxed atmosphere. Noriyuki Ueda, Dean of the Institute for Liberal Arts, gave the closing address, ending the event.
