On September 5, a delegation of seven people visited Tokyo Tech, among them the deputy director of Institute of Technology of Cambodia, the rector of the National University of Battambang, and the officer in charge of the Faculty of Science and Technology at Svay Rieng University.
The purpose of the visit was to participate in the training course of the "Project for Strengthening Engineering Education and Research for Industrial Development in Cambodia", which is managed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). On the first day of the training, they met with President Kazuya Masu, Provost and Executive Vice President for Institute Strategy Isao Satoh, Executive Vice President for Research Osamu Watanabe, and Dean of the School of Environment and Society Jun-ichi Takada.
During the meeting, President Masu gave an opening speech, followed by words of appreciation from Akihiro Iwasaki, Director of the Higher Technology and Education Team of JICA’s Human Development Division, who thanked Tokyo Tech for its past contributions to various JICA international development projects, including the current one.
After brief university introductions by the above-mentioned Cambodian universities, Provost Isao Satoh introduced Tokyo Tech, and then Executive Vice President Osamu Watanabe introduced Tokyo Tech's industry-academia cooperation activities. They then exchanged views on the current status and future of industry-academia cooperation in Cambodia.
The delegation participated in the training course led by Dean Jun-ichi Takada, the chief advisor for this project, which was held at Ookayama Campus until September 11. It is hoped that the accumulated experience of Japan's industry-academia cooperation efforts, including those of Tokyo Tech, will be shared with the participants and contribute to Cambodia's future development.
