About dormitory applications

I'd like to enter Tokyo Tech next spring and stay in a student dormitory. When do applications open?
We start accepting online applications from mid-January.

Can I apply before the release of the entrance exam results?
Yes. However, you’ll lose your eligibility if you fail the exam.

Can I apply for more than one dormitory and indicate my first choice, second choice, etc.?
You can apply for more than one dormitory, but you will be assigned to only one (preferences aren’t considered).

Could my application be rejected? What’s the ratio of applications for dormitories?
Selection will be by lottery if the number of applications exceeds capacity.
The ratio of applications differs every year, depending on the dormitory. -
If my application is successful, can I choose my room? Can I request a room change after moving in?
You can’t choose your room or roommates, and room change requests are not accepted.

Is there a charge for cancellation?
No.

Will the initial fee be refunded when I leave?
No.

Can I view rooms before applying?
Yes. Please contact the Student Support Division.

Can I keep my room while on a leave of absence or studying abroad? If yes, will I be charged rent?
It will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Please consult us.

What is the “reservation number” printed on my application form?
It’s a number for students enrolling in certain specified programs.

No, the dormitories aren’t catered.

Is there a TV in the dormitory? If not, can I bring my own?
Private rooms are not equipped with a TV, but some dormitories have common rooms with one. Please consult us if you would like to bring your own.

Can I access the internet in my room?
Yes.

Those in other dormitories have only a mattress. Please bring your own bedding set and linen, or purchase them from our supplier at a discount rate. (No purchasing available for Suzukakedai House and Minami-Tsukushino House)

Payment methods differ depending on the dormitory. We’ll explain the relevant procedure to each student well before their residency starts.
Minamishinagawa House

Is the Minami-Shinagawa House located within cycling distance of the campus?
Yes. Some residents commute by bicycle.

What appliances are provided in residential units?
There is a refrigerator, rice cooker, microwave, and toaster oven.
Senzokuike House

I’d like to ask my father to help me move in/out. Can he enter the dormitory?
He’ll be allowed to enter the dining room and lounge on the first floor only. Please follow the rules about visitors.

Can I have a specific address?
Only if you’ve been assigned a room. Please contact us if you would like to view the facility.

Can my friends visit me in the house?
Female visitors are allowed to visit, but may only enter the dining room and lounge.
Midorigaoka House

Are undergraduate students accepted?
No, the Midorigaoka House is exclusively for graduate students.
Nagatsuta House

Is there a shuttle bus to the campus?
Yes, there’s a free shuttle bus between the dormitory and Suzukakedai Campus — three times in the morning and evening. It takes about 10 minutes.
Umegaoka Dormitory / Shofu Dormitory / Komaba International House

I’m a new international student. Can I apply for an international dormitory?
If you have a reservation number, yes. We send information about dormitories along with a reservation number to eligible international students.

How can I get a reservation number?
Reservation numbers will be provided to students enrolling in selected programs that meet certain conditions.

Can Japanese students reside in the dormitory?
Only those assigned as dormitory tutors will be permitted and may be able to move in when recruited.
