Tokyo Tech Policies regarding Lectures in Q2 and Onward

Tokyo Tech is expecting the commencement of Q2 on Friday, June 11, while the state of emergency in Tokyo and elsewhere has been extended until Sunday, June 20. We highly appreciate your continued contribution in the effort to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Responsible attitudes have allowed us to continue lectures and research activities without the occurrence of cluster infections. We have all worked hard, and our continued perseverance is the only way to tackle the pandemic.
Our faculty and staff fully appreciate the hardships you are facing, and regret that the situation is not something the university can overcome on its own. Please remember, even though you are frustrated by the numerous restrictions, faculty and staff are making every effort to make your university life better and more comfortable.
I would like to share with you Tokyo Tech’s basic approach in conducting lectures. Please read through the following, and make sure to continue taking sufficient precautions. Tokyo Tech’s basic policy of protecting the lives and well-being of its members remains unchanged.

- Our top priority is to secure learning opportunities for our students.
- It is our shared thought that communication among students, and between students and faculty, is indispensable for your growth. Thus, Tokyo Tech’s primary emphasis is learning on campus.
- However, there exist challenges in conducting all lectures in person, including physical restrictions regarding campus facilities (size and quantity of lecture rooms, the ability to maintain safe distance, number of Wi-Fi access points, etc.), as well as allowing sufficient traveling time between campus and home.
- Please understand that we have sought to make the class timetables as convenient as possible under the current circumstances, and some research activities at laboratories still need to be restricted.
- Tokyo Tech will take every possible measure to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, so that our students can continue to enjoy university life.

At the same time, we ask each of you to stay vigilant, taking appropriate precautions against infection, including:
- avoiding conversations without properly wearing a face mask
- eating alone and avoiding group meals
- washing and sanitizing your hands and fingers, and ventilating rooms frequently
