The word "global" has various meanings. As one interpretation, we can compare to what we would consider its antonyms. Some examples are "bal vs. local" and "macro vs. micro." In the Graduate Major in Global Engineering for Development, Environment and Society, we are distinctly aware of the significance of this multifaceted point of view — constantly aware of the viewpoints of other academic fields, not just of engineering. We promote research and foster individuals who can articulate the significance and role of their own research in relation to society and the present era.

The faculty of the Graduate Major in Global Engineering for Development, Environment and Society come from various fields, such as urban meteorology, river engineering, disaster prevention engineering, wireless communication engineering, image processing, chemical engineering, biological engineering, mechanical engineering, space engineering, transportation planning, environmental policies, resources and energy systems engineering, international development, application of classroom learning, sociology, education development, and translation studies. They have come together for "creation and collaboration" among them for education and research in fields which are not perceived as fixed.

Many of the faculty in the Graduate Major in Global Engineering for Development, Environment and Society have ample international experience, and are conducting cooperative research with organizations such as Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), overseas universities, and private corporations. Many students have opportunities to participate in such activities. We also accept many international students, exchange students, and visiting students from overseas. In addition to recommending overseas surveys, training, and internships, the Graduate Major in Global Engineering for Development, Environment and Society proactively seeks to create a global environment in everyday life.
