To: International students who are currently in their home country with a re-entry permit for Japan (Please ignore if you are currently in Japan)

Starting from 3Q onwards, Tokyo Tech is planning to hold classes both on campus and online.

Currently, for the purpose of strengthening border control, foreign nationals staying in certain countries/regions within 14 days before applying for entry into Japan are denied permission to enter unless there are special exceptional circumstances. From August 5, 2020, under a new decision, foreign nationals with residence status who left Japan before the day when the country/region in which they are currently staying was designated as an area subject to denial of permission to enter Japan will be allowed to re-enter.

In addition, the Japanese government continues to require anybody arriving from the countries listed in (*1) below to wait 14 days at a location designated by the quarantine station chief and to refrain from using public transportation. However, the designated location will not be somewhere organized by the government as it will be assumed you have arranged your own accommodation in Japan (*2).

You should not use public transportation including taxis to get to your accommodation or residence. If you choose not to follow the quarantine station chief's request and use a taxi or a train, you are posing a health risk not only to yourself but also to society. You must arrange private transportation by yourself before leaving your home country.

Tokyo Tech requests all students arriving in Japan from overseas to self-isolate at their residence and not come to Tokyo Tech for 2 weeks after entering Japan, regardless of the country or region of departure (*3). Tokyo Tech dormitories cannot be used for self-isolation, so students must arrange accommodation by themselves and bear fees and other expenses incurred by the self-isolation period.

After considering the above, if a student wishes, Tokyo Tech will allow the student to enter Japan following consultation with and consent by family members and the relevant academic advisor or academic supervisor, and the preparation of documents required by the government. After entering Japan, you are required to self-isolate (see below for details) for two consecutive weeks. If you do not have any of the following symptoms after the self-isolation period, you can come to campus under the conditions set by Tokyo Tech.

[Stay home and do not come to campus if you have these symptoms]:

- Severe fatigue, breathing difficulties, or fever above 37.5 degrees Celsius

If you have any of the above symptoms, stay home and do not come to campus until you recover.

Regarding accommodation, if you stayed at your own apartment, etc. before leaving Japan, you may return to that location only if you will be staying alone. For those students who stayed at a dormitory or for those who shared apartments, etc. with roommates before leaving Japan, you are required to find hotels or other accommodation by yourself, at your own expense. In all cases, do not use public transportation to get to your accommodation.

If you are ready to re-enter Japan, please find transportation and accommodation either through a travel agency (see below) or by yourself. Please inform the Contact Office for International Students about your scheduled date of arrival in Japan and the name and address of your accommodation at: contact.intl.student@jim.titech.ac.jp.

Please understand that based on changes in circumstances, information about affected countries/regions and the handling of this notice are subject to change.

If you have any questions, please contact us at contact.intl.student@jim.titech.ac.jp.

Tokyo Tech continues to put your safety first and requests your diligence and cooperation in preventive measures.
