Tokyo Tech President Kazuya Masu sends his message of solidarity to the community.
To the Tokyo Tech community:
These past few months have been a time of heightened concern, anxiety, stress, and grief. The worldwide threat to public health caused by the novel-type coronavirus has imposed on all of us sudden unpredictable restrictions, forcing everyone to reorganize their priorities and make significant sacrifices.
At this difficult time, I ask all Tokyo Tech students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends to exercise patience, compassion, and support for one another, and to reaffirm our collective strength as Team Tokyo Tech. You are all resolute, creative thinkers who thrive at times of adversity, and when we work together, we can make informed decisions, remain resilient in the face of this global challenge, and emerge as an even stronger community.
While the current situation dictates that we distance ourselves from one another physically, I encourage everyone to stay connected through the various channels available. Speak to your friends and family on the phone and online. Discuss ideas openly with your colleagues, professors, and fellow students. Stay up to date with the latest information from the Institute and government authorities. We may be dispersed physically, but we can still remain "close" as we move ahead and see things through.
Finally, I want to thank all Tokyo Tech students, families, alumni, friends, and employees for their cooperation, understanding, and flexibility during this period of uncertainty. The perseverance and selflessness of faculty and staff have enabled the Institute to maintain critical operations while responding to the constantly changing situation. Consequently, we continue to focus all our efforts on the academic progress of our students, the continuity of our cutting-edge research, and the health and safety of the Tokyo Tech community and the wider population.
